Hydroseeding Tacoma WAThere are plenty of great reasons to choose either hydroseeding in Seattle. If you choose this seed option, you’ll want to put in a little effort to ensure you keep a beautifully lush landscape. When you treat your newly seeded lawn with TLC, you’ll find that you end up with a healthy, green lawn.

Prepping for a Hydroseed Lawn

One of the first things you’ll want to do is to prepare the ground where you intend to seed. This process doesn’t differ much from preparing for sod, but it is a vital part of caring for the new lawn.

  • Fence off the area if you have pets or children.
  • Clear the ground by removing any existing plants.
  • Remove rocks, sticks, and other debris.
  • Lay about four inches of topsoil.
  • Level and rake the ground in order to leave the soil loose.

Keep the Seedbed Moist

This is the most important step to nurturing your new lawn. Ideally, the seedbed should be moist at all times. Take steps to prevent puddles or runoff. Watering about 3 -5 times a day is a pretty good guideline; gradually reducing the amount of watering as the lawn begins to take hold.

Control Weed Growth

It is natural for weeds to start coming up with the new grass. However, you should not use weed control products because they may kill the young grass. As the lawn comes in, most weeds will be choked out. Any that make it through should be hand pulled. If you do this regularly (at least once a week) it should not take too much time.

Maintaining the New Lawn

At about four weeks, the new lawn could benefit from a high nitrogen fertilizer treatment. Continue to fertilize about every 6 to 8 weeks apart. When it comes to mowing, it is usually best to wait until the lawn is at least three inches. Be sure that the blades on your mower are sharp and only cut the very top of the new lawn. You’ll want to resist tearing or uprooting the grass. It can also be helpful to leave the lawn clippings as mulch for the new grass.
